About
Chefs Corey Lee and Jeong-In Hwang opened San Ho Won on November 1, 2021, in San Francisco’s Mission District. Both trained in fine dining (Lee at Benu; Hwang joined Benu after work with Pierre Gagnaire groups and The Fat Duck) and built a modern Korean room around charcoal grilling done in the kitchen rather than on tabletop burners. Michelin awards one star; Eater SF, the Chronicle, the New York Times, and The Infatuation have covered it as a leading Bay Area Korean restaurant. Diners choose à la carte or a prix fixe House Menu (published around $118 per person), with limited walk-in counter seating at open.
Menu highlights
- House Menu prix fixe of banchan, appetizers, charcoal meats, rice or soup, and dessert
- Double-cut galbi and other kitchen-grilled beef
- Savory egg soufflé in a dolsot with anchovy broth
- Pork jowl and aged kimchi jjigae
Diners say
Public reviews and press-adjacent diner threads stress excellent grilled meats, polished service, and a hard reservation (often released about 29 days out). Recurring caveats include the spend, timed seatings, and difficulty booking popular hours. Walk-in counter attempts at 5 p.m. show up often as a workaround for parties of one or two.
