About

Denise Huynh took over the former Banh Cuon Tay Ho location from her aunt in 2010 and reshaped it as Tay Ho with her mother (often called Mama Ho / Chef Anna) in the kitchen. East Bay Express and later lifestyle coverage describe a menu that keeps familiar pho and vermicelli while highlighting family roots in Huế and the Mekong Delta: house bánh cuốn, turmeric-coconut crepes, and other regional dishes. The corner restaurant sits at the edge of Oakland Chinatown and also runs a cocktail program uncommon for the neighborhood’s older Vietnamese rooms.

Menu highlights

  • House special bánh cuốn
  • Bánh khọt and turmeric-coconut crepes
  • Chicken pho and drunken beef rice plates
  • Grilled lemongrass pork vermicelli and spring rolls

Diners say

Reviewers praise bánh cuốn, regional specials, and a warmer room than a pure pho shop. Recurring notes include a long menu that can hide the regional dishes, variable waits at peak lunch, and advice to look past the standard pho line for the kitchen’s specialties. Cocktail quality shows up often as a positive surprise.
