Bahay Kubo opened on West Temple Street in Historic Filipinotown in 1992 as a classic karinderia, the cafeteria-style turo-turo format where you point at pans behind the glass and build a plate by the scoop. The room is now often listed as Kubo Restaurant, but the address and steam-table ritual remain the HiFi reference The Infatuation and Time Out keep on neighborhood shortlists. Expect rotating hot-bar staples such as kare-kare, bicol express, pancit, inihaw baboy, paksiw na pata, bopis, sinigang, and vegetable sides, plus morning silogs (tapsilog, bangsilog, tocilog) for early eaters. Turon and other sweets show up when the case is stocked; catering for parties is a long-running community use.
