About

Daikokuya’s Little Tokyo counter opened in 2002 and is widely credited with helping establish modern tonkotsu ramen culture in Los Angeles. The cramped, vintage dining room still draws lines for the house Daikoku ramen, often ordered “kotteri” for a richer finish, with gyoza and rice bowls filling out the table. The Bishamon Group now runs additional Daikokuya locations across the basin; this page covers the original First Street address. Local guides from Eater to Edible LA still treat the room as a downtown classic rather than a trend shop.

Diners say

Public reviews praise the rich broth, late hours, and old-Tokyo atmosphere. The same threads warn about long waits, tight seating, and a fatty bowl that can feel heavy. Diners who love it usually want a classic, comforting tonkotsu night more than a refined tasting-menu ramen experience.
