About
Odo East Village opened February 1, 2026, at 536 East Fifth Street in the former Minca ramen space, between Avenues A and B. Chef Hiroki Odo, whose Flatiron tasting room Odo holds two Michelin stars, frames the concept as kaiseki-izakaya: seasonal technique and presentation from kaiseki, ordered à la carte and shared like an izakaya. Head chef Koji Toyoda runs the line. Eater and the house count about 24 seats (counter plus a few tables); designer Shinichiro Ogata shaped a compact wood-and-copper room with charcoal grilling in view. Most plates land under about $20, with sashimi assortments and market items higher. The entire food menu is gluten-free by design, with rice-centered seasonings and sides rather than wheat soy sauce or conventional panko. Sake and shochu lead the drinks. Dinner runs Wednesday through Monday from 5 p.m.; closed Tuesday. Reservations drop on a rolling 30-day Resy window. Michelin lists this East Village room as Japanese/izakaya; the two Michelin stars belong to Odo in Flatiron, not this address.
Menu highlights
- Otsukuri / seasonal sashimi and usuzukuri
- Binchotan-grilled fish, wagyu hamburg steak, and other yakimono
- Beef tongue braised in red wine miso
- Dashi soups, rice-noodle nyumen, and rice-forward sweets
Diners say
Public reviews on Resy and Google Maps praise seasonal small plates, the charcoal grill, sake guidance, and gluten-free cooking that does not read like a restricted menu. Recurring friction is access: the 24-seat room books out on the midnight Resy drop, walk-ins are unreliable, and a stacked order of small plates plus drinks can climb past the “most dishes under $20” expectation. A smaller thread wants draft beer options or finds individual plates light if ordered sparingly. Diners who like it treat it as a shorter, shareable alternative to booking Flatiron Odo’s tasting.
