About
Sripraphai Tipmanee, a former nurse, began with Thai sweets and takeout for the local Thai community and opened the Woodside restaurant in 1990; the house later expanded into a larger dining room, a backyard garden, a bar, and a Long Island location. The spiral-bound menu runs to dozens of pages across regional Thai cooking. The Infatuation still calls it the pioneer that paved the way for serious Thai in New York; Eater and Zagat historically ranked it at or near the top of city Thai lists. It is no longer cash-only. Closed Wednesdays.
Menu highlights
- Pork laab
- Green curry (often with eggplant; duck variations appear in critic notes)
- Som tum (green papaya salad)
- Khao soi; soft-shell crab; pork leg over rice
Diners say
Public reviews still praise breadth, bold flavors, garden seating, and value relative to Manhattan. Recurring caveats include inconsistent dishes or spice calibration (ask for spicy), slower service when slammed, and a long-running debate about whether quality dipped versus earlier decades. Many still treat a Queens trip here as a reference Thai meal.
