About
Sunnys began as a pandemic takeout pop-up in November 2020 from the back of sister restaurant Mimi Chinese, named after a manager at Chinatown’s House of Gourmet. The permanent Kensington Market restaurant opened in August 2022 in the former Cold Tea space inside Kensington Mall. Chefs and partners David Schwartz and Braden Chong cook loud, shareable regional Chinese plates with charcoal-grill energy; Michelin awarded a Bib Gourmand in 2023 and has retained it. Toronto Life, The Infatuation, Sharp, and BlogTO-adjacent coverage treat it as one of the city’s hardest reservations for modern Chinese cooking that still reads as comfort food.
