About

Masayoshi is chef Masayoshi Baba’s namesake omakase room on Fraser Street. Baba trained in Yamaguchi and Fukuoka (including fugu apprenticeship) and spent about a decade under Hidekazu Tojo before opening in 2015. The Michelin Guide awards one star and highlights Edomae-style nigiri guided by British Columbia seafood alongside Japanese product. Canada’s 100 Best has ranked the restaurant repeatedly. The best seats are at the counter; a few tables share the same menu. Book early; the room is small by design.

Diners say

Public reviews stress fish quality, precise knifework, chef interaction at the counter, and a quiet special-occasion mood. Recurring notes include high prix-fixe cost, hard-to-get reservations, and less theatre than some newer omakase rooms. Diners who prefer it usually want classic sushi craft over immersive staging.
