About

Chef Angus An and Kate Auewattanakorn opened Maenam on West 4th Avenue in May 2009, converting An’s earlier fine-dining space into a Thai flagship. The kitchen balances Thai aromatics and house-made pastes with British Columbia seafood and produce. Michelin lists Maenam among Vancouver’s recommended Thai restaurants and calls it a local standard-bearer; the restaurant cites repeated Vancouver Magazine Best Thai wins, Restaurant of the Year (2016), and Canada’s 100 Best appearances. Family-style sharing and a tasting format both work. Expect reservations to fill for dinner.

Menu highlights

Diners say

Reviews commonly praise balanced heat, refined but not stiff service, and dishes that taste distinct from generic Canadian Thai. Recurring themes include higher prices than neighborhood Thai, busy weekend noise, and the need to book ahead. Diners often call it a best-Thai-in-the-city benchmark for visitors.

Review synthesis as of 2026-07-28. Synthesis of recurring themes in public Yelp, OpenTable, and Google Maps reviews sampled July 2026; not a rating or ranking. Cross-checked against Michelin Guide and Maenam’s published awards history.
