Louis Han Parks GU:UM in Kuala Lumpur for a Four-Month Fire Residency
The Michelin-starred Singapore chef’s modern Korean steakhouse takes over ATAS at The RuMa from August 1 through November, with charcoal-grilled Hanwoo and comfort plates built for sharing.
August 3, 2026
Louis Han’s modern Korean steakhouse GU:UM is settling into Kuala Lumpur for a full season. From August 1 through November 30, 2026, the Singapore kitchen is in residence at ATAS, the dining room at The RuMa Hotel and Residences, with dinner listed from 6 to 10 p.m. on Level M.
The stay is part of ATAS Key Tables, The RuMa’s longer chef series that began in June with Masahiko Kawano of Singapore’s Chaleur. Han cooked at ATAS in 2025. This time GU:UM gets months on the calendar, which means diners can actually plan around charcoal nights instead of racing one seating.
Fire first, then home cooking
GU:UM takes its name from a Korean word for grilling over fire. In Singapore, the Keong Saik room is Han’s looser sibling to NAE:UM on Telok Ayer, his contemporary Korean tasting kitchen. That room holds a Michelin star (retained through the 2025 guide) and helped earn him the Guide’s Young Chef Award in 2022. Singapore’s 2026 stars are due August 4, so the next edition is still ahead.
At ATAS, the published board starts with Korean small plates such as yukhoe jeon, mulhoe, and Korean fried cauliflower, then moves to the charcoal work: Hanwoo lower loin, Woodae galbi short rib, and a surf-and-turf platter. Comfort dishes follow, from Uncle Lulu’s fried rice and cold japchae to doenjang jjigae. Desserts named so far include hotteok, mandarin bingsu, and koguma mousse. Confirm prices and the night’s board when you reserve; hotel copy has stayed light on numbers.
How to book the months ahead
Four months of Korean live-fire cooking inside a Michelin Key hotel dining room is a different proposition from a weekend takeover. Han’s path runs from Seoul through Meta in Singapore, a stretch at three-star MOSU back in Korea, then NAE:UM, the private room Hideaway, and GU:UM under the NAE:UM Group. Kuala Lumpur gets the grill side of that story: meat over charcoal, shared plates, and a few nostalgic bowls between the showpieces.
Reservations go through The RuMa. Phone and WhatsApp contacts are on the hotel offer page at theruma.com. Hours and menu details can shift across a residency this long, so check before you fly. If you are already sketching a KL trip between now and late November, book the ATAS nights while the calendar is still open.
